MindNavigator uses minimal cookies and browser storage to make our platform work. We do NOT use marketing cookies, advertising tracking, or complex external services.

1. What are cookies and why do we use them?
1.1 What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device. They act as a 'memory' for the website, allowing it to remember your visit and preferences to work better.
1.2 Why does MindNavigator use cookies?
- Platform Functionality: To keep you logged in and save your progress.
- User Experience: To remember your preferences and personalize the interface.
- Improvement and Analytics: To anonymously understand how our platform is used.
2. Which cookies do we use?
2.1 Essential Storage (Always Active)
Necessary for the core functionality of the platform. These cannot be disabled.

Important: `localStorage` and `IndexedDB` are not automatically sent to our servers, which benefits your privacy.
2.2 Analytical Cookies (Consent Required)
These are only placed after your consent and help us improve the platform.

All data is anonymized. IP addresses are not fully stored.
2.3 Functional Storage (Administrative)
This concerns storage for technical and administrative purposes, such as testing the cookie banner. These have no impact on your privacy.
2.4 Marketing Cookies - Not Applicable
MindNavigator does not use marketing cookies, advertising tracking, or cross-site tracking.
3. Special protection for minors
3.1 Age groups and cookie rights
MindNavigator serves children aged 6–18. Different rules apply per age group:
- Ages 6–11: Parent fully manages the account. Children in this group have no independent access. Non-essential cookies are always disabled; the parent decides (GDPR Art. 8 / Dutch UAVG Art. 16).
- Ages 12–15: Parental consent required for non-essential cookies. Non-essential cookies are disabled by default until the parent grants consent (Dutch UAVG Art. 16).
- Ages 16–17: Non-essential cookies disabled by default; the young person may give consent independently.
- 18+: Standard cookie rules apply.
3.2 Parental control
Parents can manage their child's cookie preferences through their parent account. For children aged 6–11, the parent fully manages all account settings.
4. Third-party cookies and international transfer
4.1 Service providers used
We use a limited number of external service providers:
- Google Firebase: For authentication and database (servers in the Netherlands, europe-west4)
- Google Analytics: For anonymous usage statistics (only with your consent)
- Sentry: For error monitoring and technical stability. Sentry may store a
sentry-sessionitem in sessionStorage. This contains no personal data and is removed when the browser is closed.
4.2 Where is data stored?
Your personal data remains within the EU:
- Database & Authentication: Netherlands (europe-west4)
- Media files: United States (us-central1) - this only concerns videos and images, not personal data
Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and holds EU GDPR certification. We have accepted the Google Cloud Data Processing Addendum (March 29, 2026), including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) Module 2 and 3. Personal data does not leave the EU.
5. Managing your cookie preferences
5.1 Via MindNavigator platform
You can adjust your cookie preferences at any time via:
- Cookie banner: Click "Customize settings" for granular control
- Footer: Click "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page
- Account settings: Via your dashboard under Privacy & Cookies
5.2 Via your Browser
You can manage and delete cookies via your browser settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.).
5.3 Do Not Track
MindNavigator respects "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals from your browser. If DNT is enabled, analytical cookies are automatically disabled.
6. Consequences of refusing cookies
6.1 Per category
- Disabling essential storage: The platform will not work; logging in is impossible.
- Refusing Google Analytics: The platform works fully, but you won't help us improve anonymously.

7.1 Applicable legislation
We follow the European ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR, as well as Dutch Telecommunications law.

7.3 Data Protection Officer (DPO)
